According to the latest reports, on Thursday, May 12, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the southwest monsoon could arrive in India sooner than expected. Accounts suggest that the Andaman and Nicobar Islands could receive the first rains on May 15.

Based on narratives, in a statement, the IMD elaborated on how the southwest monsoon may advance into the south Andaman sea and the adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal near 15 May 2022.

It has been reported that usually, the southwest monsoon arrives in Kerala on June 1. But, this year, it may arrive a week earlier. The weather department reportedly elucidated that the extended range forecast has consistently recommended that favourable conditions are present for early monsoon onset over Kerala as well as its northward movement.

In addition to this, the IMD also remarked that there could be fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall possibility over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the coming four days.

Moreover, the islands could experience isolated heavy rainfall over the span of 14 - 16 May. The IMD reportedly added that squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kph to 60 kph was very likely over South Andaman Sea on May 15 and May 16.

Additionally, in the next four days, the weather department has forecasted, fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms or lightning or gusty winds are very over Kerala-Mahe and Lakshadweep with isolated heavy falls over Kerala-Mahe.
