Thane: TMC initiates 'Triple R' centres at 33 locations to promote recycling

The campaign 'Majhe Jeevan, Maje Swachh Shahar' (My Life, My City) under the 'Swachh Bharat Mission - Urban 2.0' of the Central Government was launched on Saturday morning at 'Prakal Punarnirman' in Kopri. Thanekar citizens should deposit their no longer in use but critical and reusable items in this campaign. These items will be given to the needy and recycled. This activity will continue till June 5 i.e. Environment Day.


For the campaign 'Majhe Jeevan, Majhe Swachh Shahar' (My Life, My City), under the guidance of Thane Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar, 33 centres have been started in Thane city.


On Saturday, the centres at Kopri, Thane Station area and Viviana Mall were inaugurated. In this ceremony, Additional Commissioner (2) Sanjay Herwade, Deputy Commissioner Tushar Pawar, Health Officer Balaji Haldekar, Director of Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth Ulhas Karle and CEO Bhatu Sawant were present. Also, 'Rhythmic Gymnastics' coach Mansi Surve, sportsperson Sanyukta Kale and Kimaya Karle were present as goodwill ambassadors of the campaign.

We are moving towards the 'zero waste concept'. The aim is to make the city look clean and beautiful, thereby improving the health of the citizens. It will be boosted by campaigns like ‘My Life, My City’. Thane Municipal Corporation and Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth have already proved this through project reconstruction, asserted Additional Commissioner (2) Sanjay Herwade on the occasion of the inauguration.


So, the Thanekars can give the goods that are little used, no longer in use, repaired and reused at these centres. It will benefit many people, said Tushar Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Solid Waste Management Department.

Recycling has been happening in Thane for four years

Launched through the Union Ministry of Housing and Civil Affairs, the campaign centres are being opened all over the city. However, for the past four years, Project Punarnirman, a recycling centre, has been running in the premises of STP plant at Kopri in association with Thane Municipal Corporation and Samarth Bharat Vyaspeeth. So far, about two lakh citizens have come in contact with this project. 10 tons of goods have been collected and 70 thousand old books have been redistributed.


 Appeal to Thanekars

The Thane Municipal Corporation has appealed to the citizens of Thane to cooperate with the campaign. In housing societies, a car can be sent to collect these items if arranged in advance. Society participating in this campaign will be given a plant on the occasion of Environment Day. Contact the following persons if any societies want to participate.
