On Thursday, July 7, triple-digit rainfall continued to lash Mumbai for the third consecutive day with the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Santacruz and Colaba observatory registered 125 mm and 110 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am, reports stated. The corresponding numbers for the 12-hour period ending at 8.30 pm were 21.8 mm and 33.2 mm. 

Further, a red alert has been issued for Friday, July 8 in MumbaiThanePalghar and Raigad. The weather forecast predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. 

The IMD has reportedly issued a red alert in Mumbai from 1 pm today till the next 24 hours. In light of this, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged citizens to plan their travel and schedules accordingly. 

On Thursday, continuous rainfall was seen throughout the day in the city, with an orange alert in force that highlighted heavy to very heavy rainfall was likely at some places. By evening, Mumbai and its suburbs registered light to moderate spells with some instances of extreme rains. 

While a red alert is being issued on Friday, the following two days will be under an orange alert. Moreover, the monsoon has crossed the 1,000 mm mark in Mumbai which has addressed the shortfall of June. 

Based on accounts, the aggregate rainfall till now has been 1,051 mm at the Santacruz observatory which is 296 mm over normal, while that of Colaba was 953.22 mm and 209 mm. Owing to the rainfall, temperatures in Mumbai have been around 27 degrees Celsius whilst the minimum has been 24 degrees Celsius.
