Mumbai, that city that never sleeps, not only is a thriving location for commercial activities but also hosts significant wildlife. It may come as a surprise to many that amidst the concrete jungle, the island city has some hotspots for wildlife.

1. Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Situated in Borivali, it accommodates multiple species of birds, mammals, reptiles, butterflies, and over 1,300 species of plants. Visitors can use the cycle facility there to ride through the park. 

2. Aarey Colony

There are nearly 290 species of wildlife in Aarey Forest including vulnerable animals like leopards, sambar deer, Red-wattled Lapwing and Rusty-spotted cats. In the recent past, there were many reports of leopard attacks in the area.

3. Powai Lake

An artificial lake, Here you can spot multiple wildlife species like the kingfisher, falcon and sometimes crocodiles as well. Recently, locals are protesting about the cycling track set to be made around it, since they believe it will jeopardize the environment. 

4. Maharashtra Nature Park Society

Developed on a garbage dumping ground area, it has a man-made forest and is surrounded by the mangrove forests of Mithi River. Today there are nearly 14,000 varieties of plants and other species.

5. Raj Bhavan

With remnants of the old forest, and the thick jungle on the slopes of the Malabar Hill, the Raj Bhavan estate has marine shells and one can occasionally sight dolphins.
