The forest department is struggling to calm angry and terrified residents amidst the increasing attacks on humans by a leopard in Aarey Milk Colony. The department is finding it difficult to capture the leopardess behind the attacks in the said vicinity. On Friday, October 1, they laid three cages at the attack sites.

By using the camera trappings, the forest department and wildlife experts identified a sub-adult leopard who is believed to be 1.5-2-years-old behind these attacks. Camera trappings are when an infrared camera is equipped with motion sensors. It takes still pictures or 10-second-long videos when it senses movement.

Reportedly, over 30 forest department officials and 15 volunteers have been working in shifts to trace the animal for the past month. They have set up seven cages as well. The leopardess was seen around the cage but never entered in, and to capture the leopard; camera traps were increased from 5 to 10 in the last month.

Even though they managed to trap three leopards, the problem leopard is not yet trapped. Out of the three leopards who entered the cage, one was a sibling of the problem animal. Apart from the sibling, the other two leopards have been released.

A few days ago, it was reported that the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (wildlife) had permitted the forest officials to capture the leopard by Sunday, October 31.
