Thousands of devotees every year conducts Chhath Puja close to water bodies or by making arrangements wherein they could immerse themselves in water. Women pray for the betterment of their children, husband and family.

Chhath Mata, also known as Shashti Devi is prayed to for the boon of children. Clad in traditional sarees and dresses, women had a distinct way of applying vermillion. Many applies it from the tip of their nose.

However, after two years of hiatus owing to COVID-19 pandemic, nearly five lakh devotees thronged the famous Juhu beach on Sunday, dressed in traditional finery to perform the annual Chhath puja with religious fervour.

Therefore, to maintain law and order in the city amid the overcrowding, the police bandobast was also in force throughout the day. Moreover, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) made arrangements for the smooth functioning of the rituals.

Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis also participated in the Chhath puja celebrations. Divakar Mishra, organiser of Chhath puja on Juhu beach said that Fadnavis had graced the Chhath Utsav Mahasangh on his father Mohan Mishra’s invitation.

If reports are to be believed, Prithviraj Chavan, assistant commissioner of the K-west ward had made arrangements for six ambulances, five water tankers, 100 flood lights, six mobile toilets, seven LED light towers and 100 LED light poles.
