Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus last year, the citizens had to celebrate the festival of Ganeshotsav in a simple manner from the comfort of their homes. This year too, the situation with regards to COVID-19 still persists, therefore, the Ganeshotsav Mandals are likely to be disappointed once again.

According to sources, like last year, this year too, the Mandals are to celebrate the festival with smaller idols. However, the Maharashtra government is yet to make an official announcement regarding the same due to which the Mandals have initiated correspondence with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray along with other political leaders in the state.

Meanwhile, several Mandals have demanded tall Ganesha idols, adding that it happens to be a matter of faith. Moreover, letters have been given to CM Thackeray with regards to the same. In addition, the Brihanmumbai Public Ganeshotsav Coordinating Committee has requested the state government to support the idea of tall idols as the COVID-19 situation is currently under control.

Furthermore, the Ganapati festival will be celebrated on September 10 this year. Moreover, people living in the city are touted to visit their respective homes during this time to spend time with their families.

On the other hand, the Railways have informed that the reservation of trains going to Konkan during Ganeshotsav is already full this year. In addition, the reservation for the return journey has also been filled. However, there are some empty seats in AC two and three-tiers.
