The increase in the number of coronavirus cases has also started playing spoil support in the festivities. Ganesh Utsav 2020 is fast approaching and it seems that it will be a subdued affair this time around.

Ganeshotav is one festival that is celebrated on a large scale in Mumbai and other areas of Maharashtra.  However, with the social distancing norms in place, it seems highly unlikely.

The state government has requested people to celebrate Ganeshotsav in a simple manner and not gather in large numbers. Looking at the situation the NMC has decided to provide additional artificial lakes at five different locations in South Mumbai for the immersion of the Ganesha.

The artificial ponds will be set up at Grant Road, Tardeo, Malabar Hill, Mumbai Central and Girgaon in South Mumbai. The idea behind setting these artificial ponds is to ensure that people don't have to go all the way to Girgaon Chowpatty for the immersion. Furthermore, they expect that wth this move, it will cut down the number of people and help maintain distance.

Looking at the current situation of the coronavirus in the Mumbai and Maharashtra the state government has banned the arrival and immersion procession of Ganesha.

Last year the Brihanmumbai municipal corporation (BMC) had made arrangements for artificial lakes at 34 different locations in Mumbai for the immersion of Ganesha. The Brihanmumbai public Ganeshotsav Coordination Committee demanded that the Municipal corporation should provide a large number of artificial lakes in various locations of the city so that people can immerse Ganesha near their respective homes.

Keeping this demand in mind the administration has decided to provide artificial lakes at five different locations within the limits of the municipality’s ‘D’ division office.
