Navratri will be celebrated amidst rules of the government, in the backdrop of coronavirus. The festivities which commence on October 7, will be celebrated amidst regulations. Whilst many claim that the intensity of the second wave has reduced, the danger it holds persists. Therefore, the state government has directed the citizens to not celebrate the festival in large numbers and take required precautions.

The rules brought in place comprise the below.

  • Given the situation created by the coronavirus and the limited number of pavilions, the policy of the municipal corporation, as well as the local administration concerned, should be established concerning the pavilions.
  • This year’s festivities should be celebrated simply and the idols of domestic and public deities should be decorated accordingly.
  • The height of the idol of the deity should be 4 feet for public congregations and for domestic goddess should be 2 feet.
  • As in the previous year, the idol of the Goddess made of metal or marble should be worshipped.
  • If the idol is environmentally friendly it should be immersed in the house itself. If that isn’t possible, then coordination should be established with the local administration regarding immersion in the artificial immersion site.
  • Garba, Dandiya and other cultural programs shouldn’t be organized. Instead, priority should be given to organizing health-related activities/camps like blood donation camps, coronavirus, malaria, dengue etc. Awareness should be spread about diseases and their prevention measures as well as cleanliness.
  • Online, cable networks and websites should be arranged to facilitate the darshan of the goddess. Crowds should be avoided during the conduction of aarti, bhajan, kirtan and other religious programs.
  • Some rules need to be followed regarding noise pollution.
  • Not more than five workers should be present in the pavilion at a time. In addition to this, it is strictly forbidden to give food and drinks in the pavilion.
  • The goddesses’ arrival and immersion procession shouldn’t be taken out.
  • In the traditional method of immersion, the aarti performed at the place of immersion should be done at home and the place of immersion should be stopped at for the shortest possible time.
  • Children and senior citizens should avoid visiting the immersion site for safety reasons.
  • The procession of immersion of the idols of all the goddesses of the house shouldn’t be taken out in the whole building together.
  • Effigies of Ravana burnt on Dusshera should be done following all the rules. Only those people needed for the ceremony should be present during the event. The audience shouldn’t be called and arrangements should be made to watch them live through the various social media platforms.
