The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in its report revealed that 39,235 Ganesh idols were immersed in Mumbai as of 6 am today, September 29. Of the total immersed, 6,601 were sarvajanik, 32,190 were Gharguti idols, 444 were Gauri idols. However, of these, 11,097 idols were immersed in the artificial lakes created by the civic body.

If reports are to be believed, more than 30,000 idols were submerged within 12 hours. 

It is pertinent to note that less than 8,000 idols were immersed until 6 pm. Visarjan of 7,950 Ganesh Idols took place, including 7,513 household ones, 329 'sarvajanik' or public idols and 108 of goddess Gauri.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis joined in the festive spirit of Ganeshotsav by showering flowers on the processions at Girgaon.

A day after the Ganesh Visarjan takes place at various beaches in the city, the BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar along with Bollywood actors Rajkummar Rao and Manushi Chhillar took part in a clean-up drive at the Juhu beach.

Meanwhile, till 3 am, a staggering 37,599 idols of Lord Ganesha and Gauri were immersed on the last of the festival. Of these, a total of 5,840 Sarvjanik Ganesh idols were immersed in various water bodies across the city. 31,322 idols from households found their way into the city's waterways. The festival also saw the immersion of 437 Gauri idols, symbolizing the feminine divine energy.

A substantial 10,121 household idols found their way into these eco-friendly immersion sites. Of these, 734 Sarvjanik Ganesh idols, 158 Gauri idols were immersed in artificial lakes.
