As the festivities celebrations return with grandeur after two-years hiatus, MLA Prakash Surve has written to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde seeking a relief on time curb for playing garba and dandiya during 9 days of Navratri.

In his appeal, Surve, who was elected to the state assembly from Magathane constituency in north Mumbai, urged the CM to allow garba-dandiya till midnight during Navratri across Maharashtra.

He also stated that Navratri is being celebrated from September 26 to October 4 adding that Gujarat, Rajasthan and other states allow garba-dandiya up to midnight. Therefore, he urged the CM to give permission in Maharashtra too for playing garba-dandiya up to midnight across the state.

Surve, Magathane MLA, in his letter to the CM stated, “You, CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, have lifted restrictions for several festivals, like Dahi Handi and Ganeshotsav, this year as these were celebrated in a big way after a gap of two years. So, I am requesting you to give permission to Mumbai and Maharashtra at large to play garba and dandiya till midnight on all days of the festival this year, instead of the stipulated two days.”

For those unversed, people are allowed to hold garba and dandiya till midnight only on the last two days of the festival in Mumbai.

It is pertinent to note that after Shinde-Fadnavis government came to power it has removed all restrictions which paved the way for the grand celebration of Dahi Handi and Ganapati festival after almost two years in the state.

He pointed out that the garba-dandiya is being organised in the state and in North Mumbai in which people from all religions participate.
