When you think about comfort food, most of the time it is perceived to be junk food. Well, CRAVE — An all day café, has opened its doors for the second time with a new outlet in Churchgate and they are trying to make comfort food a bit healthy if you can say. They first set up shop in Prabhadevi, and with an overwhelming response to the food & drinks they serve, they’ve taken their services to SoBo.

This quaint café is the perfect spot to enjoy your cup of freshly brewed coffee with a good book or gorge on a ‘never-deep fried’, whole-wheat burger with your buds.

The idea behind CRAVE is to bring the same old comfort through food without compromising on quality or taste. Right from stone-baked, gluten free, amaranth-rice flour pizza base or a hearty whole-wheat penne arrabiata; a healthy, freshly squeezed kale-spinach-apple cold pressed juice or an earthy balsamic vinaigrette salad, there’s mix of good taste and keeping one healthy.

We went over to the new outlet and binged on some delicious preparations, only to CRAVE more after the meal!

Ambience

It’s a two-storey café with a simple, comfortable decor. Around three tables on the ground level with the kitchen and the main counter, and then you have stairs leading up to the first level with a capacity to hold 20-odd people at once. The ambience is warm, casual and the most apt modern day word would be “chill”.

Food & Beverages

Beverages

Watermelon + Mint Flush

Starting with the drinks, we ordered the Flush (₹150), which is a watermelon-mint cold pressed juice. If your palate likes watermelon, you will absolutely LOVE this drink! It is refreshing to the core, and the best part is, no added sugar, preservatives or any sort of additives.

King Kale

Next up, we tried the a drink from the Superfood smoothies list - King Kale (₹180) - which is made up of Mango, Kale. I personally am a Mango fan, so I enjoyed the smoothie which had a slight rough texture due to the kale. Again, it had optimal level of sweetness and the portion was satisfactory.

Food

Handcrafted in their kitchen, CRAVE offers 7 variants of burgers (both veg and non-veg) with an option to call for one with a whole wheat bun. I went for the Kung fu Panda (₹270), which has sweet chilli chicken, caramelised onion, lettuce, cheddar and coleslaw. So this one didn’t have a chicken patty but shredded sweet chilli chicken which was really tasty. If you like the slightly chinese, sweet chilli flavour, this is your bite. The bun was fresh, soft and the burger was a good call.

Kung fu Panda

Next up, we went for a pasta, which you can customise to your liking. The combination we tried was a whole wheat penne, in mix sauce (which is on the spicy side), with herbed chicken, mushrooms, capsicum and red paprika. The pasta was fresh, flavoured intricately to the point, and can serve two people if you’re planning to order something else or else it’s good enough for one.

Herbed Chicken Pasta in Mix SauceContinuing to hog, we called for a pizza. You can either create your own pizza or call for one from their list. We tried The Great Nawab (₹395) medium portion which is really good enough for two. The pizza had assorted chicken in the form of chicken tikka, shami kebab and seekh kebab, along with capsicum and onion.

For meat lovers, this one is delectable! The toppings were fresh, tasty and with every bite, you will actually smile as the chicken was so perfectly spiced.

PS: At times, pizzas are not loaded with the real protein of your choice but with other veggies et al, but this one, it was LOADED with meat!

The Great Nawab

After eating all this, the big belly was already stretched but their desserts looked too tempting to ignore.

Panna Cotta (₹90), Hazelnut Chocolate Mousse (₹95) and Blueberry Cheesecake (₹110), different flavours in small glasses, the most ideal way to end such a scrumptious meal!

From L to R- Panna Cotta, Chocolate Mousse, Blueberry Cheesecake

CRAVE is an ideal café for a quick bite, and the food here is what they say it is, it makes you feel comfortable while eating and after your meal is done, you’re left craving for more!
