Air India Colony produced a spirited fighting performance to emerge champions in the Men’s Open event of the 17th Kalina Football League 2017, organised by Our Lady of Egypt Parish Church Sports Committee and played at Our Lady of Egypt Church Parish ground, Kalina.

In the summit clash, the Air India Colony outfit a strong challenge from defending champions Indian FC to clinch a narrow 2-1 win in their favour. The first half was locked at 1-1.

Holders Indian FC were fortunate to take the lead when Kalpesh Rane’s long throw saw Air India goalkeeper Kunal Kunchikurve fumble with a regulation collection and allow the ball slip through his hands and into his own goal. Air India were lucky as well to get the equaliser following a costly lapse by Indian FC goalkeeper Vikram Singh who after gathering the ball tried to hastily get it away but to everyone’s surprise, he clumsily threw the ball into his own goal.

However, striker Kishan Singh’s snap effort in the dying moments of the match helped Air India score the crucial winning goal and secure their triumph.

Earlier, the Media Team won the Mario Mendes Memorial Trophy when they put it across the OLEPC (organisers) team by a close 1-0 margin. The Media outfit’s celebratory guest player Steven Dias netted the all-important winning goal in the first half to secure the win.

Results : Main League – Men Open (finals): Air India Colony 2 (OG-Vikram Singh, Kishan Singh 1) beat Indian FC 1 (OG-Kunal Kunchikurve).

Mario Mendes Memorial Trophy: Media Team 1 (Steven Dias) beat OLEPC 0.
