“As the nation slept, our champs made history by defeating Argentina 2-1 in COTIF,” tweeted Indian Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore after India emerged victorious against a formidable Argentinian football team in the COTIF Cup on August 6, in Spain. Mind you, Argentina is the most successful team in the U20 World Cup history and the Blue Tigers defeated them despite being reduced to 10 men in the final match of the football tournament.
Deepak Tangri (04’) and Anwar Ali (68’) were the stars of the night as they led the India U20 team to a historic win. The Floyd Pinto-coached side won the match after their 0-2 loss against Murcia, 0-3 against Mauritania and a goalless draw against Venezuela.

Tangri managed to score the first goal for India in the fourth minute and India took the lead in the first half itself. After a perfect start, the Indian team attacked for the rest of the first half trying to create and encash on chances. However, the Indian team was soon left with 10 men after forward Jadhav was shown the red card for a bad foul in the 54th minute.
WELL DONE @IndianFootball U-20 team!

While Argentina tried to break through the Indian defence, Indian goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill stood tall and pulled off a couple of saves in the 56th minute and the 61st minute. On the other hand, Anwar Ali struck a brilliant free-kick in the 68th minute and led the Asian side to a 2-0 lead.
Subsequently, Argentina managed to score a goal but the Blue Tigers held their nerve and registered their first victory against Argentina on the Spanish soil. Alongside, India beat current Asian U-16 Champions Iraq 1-0 in the WAFF Under-16 Boys Championship.
After the victory, the coach Floyd Pinto stated that this victory would earn the Blue Tigers more respect in World Football:
