Mumbai City FC and FC Goa locked horns in the first leg of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2018/19 semi-finals at the Mumbai Football Arena. The visitors thrashed the Islanders 1-5 and strengthened their position
The Indian Super League (ISL) 2018/19's first playoff match concluded with a dominant victory for FC Goa over the hosts, Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena on March 9. The Islanders were after a 5-1 win in the first leg of the first leg of ISL 2018/19 semi-finals.
While Mumbai began with an attacking start and took the lead through Rafael Bastos, an opportunistic strike from Jackichand Singh (31') and a header from Mourtada Fall (39') handed Goa the lead before half-time. Adding to the Islanders' woes, Ferran Corominas (51'), Fall (58') and Brandon Fernandes (82') scored three more goals for Goa in the second half.
In the meantime, this is the first instance where a team has won an away play-off tie in the ISL. Alongside, Mumbai City's hopes of reaching the final for the first time looks to be all but over.

This definitely brings concerns to the Mumbai City FC camp and increases the task for coach Jorge Costa who would now look at the further games with a wider perspective.
