The main round of the Super Cup, India's premier knock-out football tournament, is all set to kick off, March 29 onwards. The opening match will see an encounter between Chennaiyin FC and Mumbai City FC in a round-of-16 match.
While there were doubts about holding the tournament after eight I-League clubs decided to boycott it if the All India Football Federation (AIFF) did not address their grievances in the impending domestic restructuring, the football federation eventually decided to accept the demands of the clubs after their meeting with the president Praful Patel.

Indian Super League (ISL) franchises will begin their Super Cup journey on Friday at the Kalinga Stadium. Chennaiyin FC had finished at the bottom of the ISL table this season, whereas the Islanders made it to the semi-finals.
Mumbai City FC head coach Jorge Costa stated that his side would want to end the season on a high by doing well in the Super Cup. He also hinted that some young players may be tried out on Friday.
Top-six sides each from the I-League and ISL are directly seeded into the Round of 16 while the four lower-ranked teams from both the leagues play in the qualifying round of the Super Cup.
