On April 21, Kasturba Hospital discharged its 100th COVID-19 patient after the person tested negative twice from the virus. Upon being discharged, the patient thanked the doctors, nurses and the medical staff at Kasturba Hospital.

Kasturba Hospital has played a pivotal role for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in its fight against coronavirus. The first-ever COVID-19 patient in Mumbai was detected during the second week of March. At that time, Kasturba Hospital was the only hospital being used as a centre to isolate the patients and treat them. For a long time, it was the only hospital to treat COVID-19 patients.

The BMC, upon the discharge of the 100th patient, took Twitter to display #SmilesInTheTimeOfCorona,

While a century of recovered patients has been registered by Kasturba Hospital, the BMC said, "we’re not done yet. We are committed to keep going on and on."

Among the 100 recovered patients, 60 are male whereas 40 are female. Also, 24 of the discharged patients consist of people from the 60+ age category whereas seven of them are children below 10 years. Meanwhile, close to 400 people have recovered from COVID-19 and have been discharged in Mumbai.

The civic body also announced via Twitter that 75 patients had beat the virus in BMC peripheral hospitals which consist of Jogeshwari's HBT Hospital, Kurla's Bhabha Hospital, Ghatkopar's Rajawadi Hospital, and BDBA Hospital.

Among which, 30 patients were discharged from HBT Hospital, 22 from Bhabha Hospital, 18 from Rajawadi Hospital, three from BDBA Hospital and two from Khurshedji Behramji Hospital.

This comes as positive news amid the situation across Mumbai, which has become the epicentre of the pandemic in the state. As the total number of cases in Maharashtra crossed the 5000-mark on April 21, the state government on Tuesday decided to revoke the relaxations given to some sectors in the Mumbai and Pune.
