BMC succeeds in controlling monsoon-related ailments in 2020

Records show that in October 2019, a total of 536 cases of malaria were reported in the city, however, until October 11, 2020, only 160 patients have been diagnosed with the infection.

Coronavirus cases have been increasing in Mumbai, and the administration for the last few months has been working hard to ensure the spread is controlled. However, officials, on the other hand, have also noticed a rise in malaria cases, where the count was increasing every day, adding more worries for the doctors associated with the Municipal Corporation.

Addressing the same thereby offering safety to the patients and citizens, doctors from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) added more efforts to their daily tasks and have treated several malaria cases successfully, thereby controlling the count.

Besides this, officials also stated that the BMC health department has succeeded in controlling other monsoon-related diseases like malaria, dengue, jaundice and swine flu, which are common during the rains.

Records show that in October 2019, a total of 536 cases of malaria were reported in the city, however, until October 11, 2020, only 160 patients have been diagnosed with the infection. Moreover, the number of patients suffering from various diseases has also decreased this year in comparison to last year.

Every year, the municipal corporation, works hard to control the diseases during the monsoon, as various infectious diseases like malaria, dengue, leptospirosis, gastroenteritis, malaria and jaundice are spread commonly. Preventing rain-borne diseases poses many challenges for the health department, and this year, it was added responsibility due to the increasing COVID-19 infection as well, where officials had to manage a number of cases, however, the team has succeeded in the same.

BMC has stated that concerned workers were asked to spray disinfectants, mosquito repellent spray, conduct door-to-door inspection, sanitation activities, raise awareness, etc. among the citizens, thereby educate them about preventing these ailments.
