According to a latest report revealed by the Maharashtra Health department, two international passengers were found COVID-19 positive in random sampling at Mumbai airport today, December 28.
It has also come to light that both the samples have been sent for genome sequencing, stated the health officials.
This development came at a time when there has been a sudden spurt in the coronavirus cases at several countries across the globe.
Moreover, amid the ongoing spike in COVID-19 infections, the screening of international passengers arriving in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur airports began from December 24.

As per state public health department, Maharashtra reported 36 fresh cases and one death. The case fatality rate in the state was at 1.82 per cent. Also, 36 patients were discharged today on recovery from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries, so far, to 79,88,008. The recovery rate in the state was at 98.17 per cent and, as of today, there are 164 active cases in the state, read a health bulletin issued by the state Health department.

Meanwhile, a day earlier, on Tuesday, Mumbai reported 6 new cases and zero deaths, stated a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data.
However, Even as the COVID-19 cases has not seen a gradual spike in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday evening, December 26, began taking preventing measures to curb the spread virus.
