Coronavirus Pandemic: Maharashtra records 286 new cases on Thursday

As of Thursday, April 16, the tally of COVID-19 cases in the state crossed 3,202. State Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed that five people were also discharged on the same day.

The tally of COVID-19 cases in the state crossed 3,202 on Thursday, April 16, with 286 people testing positive throughout the day. Further, State Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed that five people were also discharged. 

As per the data released by the State Health Ministry on Thursday, 56,673 tests were conducted and 52,762 people tested negative for coronavirus and 3,202 people tested positive, so far. Moreover, 71,076 people have been asked to home-quarantine whereas 6,108 people were institutionally quarantined by the government.

On Thursday, The state recorded seven deaths from COVID-19, three of which are from Mumbai and the remaining fatalities were recorded from Pune. Three patients were between the 40-60 age group whereas four others were more than 60 years old. Notably, six of the deceased patients suffered from existing ailments such as diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, heart diseases, etc.

With these numbers, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is taking all the measures to curb the outbreak and increase its manpower against the pandemic. The G-South ward in Mumbai is the worst-affected area with 390 cases being recorded as per the BMC data on April 15. Worli is one of the areas under the G-South ward and has reportedly contributed to 20 per cent of the total cases.

As of 10:30 am on Friday, April 17, the state recorded 3,398 cases with 2,073 patients from Mumbai. The total deaths by then were 194 and the state had discharged 300 patients as they recovered from the virus. More information about the cases on Friday is yet to be released.
