Jaslok Hospital has been badly hit by COVID-19 as a new report mentions that 30 new positive cases have appeared among the medical staff. This comes after 2 nurses tested positive for coronavirus on April 1.

As a consequence, the hospital tested 1,600 of its employees out of precaution. While most of these cases were negative, 30 new cases have been reported. This brings the total number of positive cases from Jaslok Hospital to 56. The ones who were tested negative have been kept at the hospital’s hostel near VT.

The hospital issued a statement saying - “Ever since the first case was tested positive, Jaslok hospital quarantined the connected staff and quarantined them at one of our hostel, Peregrine, near VT. The BMC had announced this hostel as a containment zone. All of them were tested subsequently and were found negative. On a precautionary ground, Jaslok had suspended its operations after the first case.”

It is said that although the out-patient department or OPD was closed, patients who were in the hospital prior to April 1 were receiving treatment with minimal staff.

Tardeo Hospital saw some reprieve over the past couple of days with no positive cases reported. 36 employees at the hospital tested positive on April 8 and the hospital was classified as a containment zone. Around four employees at the Breach Candy hospital tested positive recently while the results of 180 staffers are currently awaited.

Frontline workers like nurses and healthcare officials are some of the most vulnerable to catching the virus. Staff at a Mumbai hospital recently protested the lack of good-quality PPE which could potentially put them in danger. The protest began after a COVID-19 patient died in the hospital.
