The first ART centre was started on April 1, 2004 at JJ Hospital to prevent the spread of HIV infection after the number of patients infected with HIV started increasing. This centre has completed 20 years, and in these 20 years, 43,080 patients have received medical treatment in JJ Hospital. At present three ART centres are functioning in JJ Hospital. 


ART Center was started in JJ Hospital on April 1, 2004 under the guidance of Dr. Alka Deshpande. On September 14, 2016, the second ART centre was started and on December 1, 2017, the third ART centre was started. So far 43,080 patients have been given medical treatment under the first and second ART facilities. Among them, 50,95 patients have received medical treatment in the first ART centre, 1191 in the second ART centre and 379 patients through the third ART centre.

Patients living with HIV were relieved by these free drugs. Today marks 20 years of the first ART centre opened in JJ Hospital. Dr. Pallavi Saple, founder of JJ Hospital, Vijaykumar Karanjkar of MDAX, Nodal Officer Dr. Priya Patil, Dr. Dhirubhai Rathod, as well as patients receiving medical treatment for the past few years, expressed their condolences in a special function organised on this occasion.


Still, the challenge of six hundred patients per year remains

20 years ago, the number of children with HIV coming to the hospital for medical treatment was huge. It has decreased now. But still every year 600 patients visit the ART centre of the hospital for medical treatment. Public awareness about HIV infection, its causes, and preventive treatment is continuously created at various levels. The hospital administration expressed the need to think about how to reduce the number of HIV patients.
