State Health Minister, Rajesh Tope, while interacting with the media at the Janata Darbar, stated that Maharashtra has so far received 54 per cent vaccination for the coronavirus, in the first phase.

According to reports, at least 54 per cent of the targeted beneficiaries were administered COVID-19 vaccine doses across 274 centres in the state, as the inoculation drive resumed after two days on Tuesday, January 19.

He further added that COVID-19 vaccines - Covaxin and Covishield - are completely safe and people need not have any fear about getting inoculated. Further speaking about the vaccination process, Tope said that with the COVID-19 app running slowly, the process has been delayed a little. However, he added that the work of correcting the glitches in the app is underway at the central level, expressing confidence that these errors will be removed soon.

Furthermore, Tope admitted that beneficiaries are confused about getting the vaccine and many of them are not turning up to get the jab as they are waiting to see the vaccine's reaction on others.

On the other hand, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to increase the number of immunization centres in 24 divisional offices. According to sources, the BMC has decided to start three vaccination centres in each department. Therefore, Mumbaikars will now have access to COVID-19 vaccination near their homes. Moreover, a four-day vaccination program will be conducted in the state.

In the first phase, 1.25 lakh health workers have been vaccinated in Mumbai. In the second phase, front line employees and in the third phase, citizens below 50 years of age will be vaccinated. The municipal administration has decided to expand its vaccination centre as it wants to vaccinate more people for the second and third phase.
