55,785 travellers in the state screened for Coronavirus

Coronavirus has been spreading like wildfire the world over. Governments the world over are making all provisions to make sure that they can curtail the impact and to ensure that they can contain it.

On Thursday, Maharashtra Health Department shared that a so far a total of 55,785 travellers have been screened for coronavirus infection at the Mumbai international airport. All passengers that are arriving from the 12 countries that have been majorly impacted by this virus are being screened at the Mumbai airport. These countries are China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, Italy, Iran and Malaysia.

Various precautionary measures are being deployed to contain the spread of the virus. Isolation facilities have been set up to quarantine those infected. For now, there have been no confirmed cases have come from the state. However, if there is even an ounce of doubt of any person having this nobel virus, then they are sent to the isolation centres for further testing and investigation.

So far, 98 travellers have been quarantined in hospitals across the state. All of them in the past few weeks been to one of the countries that are impacted by this deadly virus. As per the National Institute of Virology's (NIV) reports, out of these 98, 95 have tested negative.  Tests for the three of these are awaited.

In the meantime, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, on Wednesday, said that passengers from Iran and Italy arriving at Mumbai International Airport will also be screened for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) infection.

Mumbai girl Sonali Thakkar who was stuck in Japan for almost 23 days too has finally made it to the city on February 27. The 24-year-old was stuck in the Japanese port of Yokohoma. She was a crew member on Diamond Princess cruise. Thakkar was brought to the country via a special Air India flight chartered by the government.
