COVID-19: Maharashtra records highest deaths since Oct 2020; Mumbai witnesses slight dip in daily cases

In the past 16 days, daily case load in Mumbai went up from around 5,000 to around 11,000 cases. The areas that have the highest number of active cases include Borivli, Kandivli, Malad, Jogeshwari, Andheri, Mulund, Ghatkopar and Bhandup.

On Thursday, Maharashtra witnessed a slight dip in the daily number of coronavirus cases. The state reported 56,286 new COVID-19 cases.

However, Maharashtra also recorded the maximum casualties on April 8. With 376 deaths, the state reported the highest number of deaths in a single day since October last year. On October 16, 2020, Maharashtra had reported 306 deaths. The case fatality rate in the state is 1.77 per cent.

Moreover, 36,130 patients were discharged taking the total count of recovered patients to 26,49,757. The recovery rate in the state is 82.05 per cent. As of April 8, there were 5,21,317 active cases in the state.

Meanwhile, Mumbai too saw a dip on April 8 with 8,938 new cases. With the addition of today's number, the city has reported 4,91,980 COVID-19 cases. As per reports by the city's civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai reported 25 COVID-19 fatalities taking the death toll to 11,881. There are 86,279 active patients.

Besides, 3,95,378 patients recovered and were discharged with a recovery rate of 80.36 per cent. Meanwhile, the case fatality rate stands at 2.41 per cent and there are 83,693 active cases in the city.
