Maharashtra reports nearly 60,000 COVID-19 cases; Mumbai records second highest daily count with over 10K cases

Maharashtra, which is swamped by the pandemic’s second wave, recorded nearly 60,000 cases on Wednesday, April 7. With 59,907 new coronavirus cases, Maharashtra reported the highest single-day rise in cases so far.

The state now has a total of 31,73,261 cases. The toll rose by 322 to 56,652. With the recovery of 30,296 patients, the active caseload dropped to 5,01,559.

Moreover, the state also reported the highest single-day death count due to coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic with 322 fatalities. The total death count in the state has reached 56,652.

The tally of recoveries has been pushed to 26,13,627. The recovery rate is 82.36 per cent and the case fatality rate is 1.79 per cent.

Out of the new cases today, Pune shared the highest with 11,023 cases, followed by Mumbai at 10,428, Nagpur at 5,721 cases, Thane at 3,108 and Aurangabad 1,765 cases.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s capital, Mumbai, reported 10,428 new infections. This is the second-highest daily count so far. The city had recorded 11,163 COVID-19 infections earlier on April 4. Currently, the total number of cases stands at 4,82,760 the city civic body said.

Amid a surge in cases, the Maharashtra government has imposed a night curfew and weekend lockdowns.
