The city has recently seen an outbreak of swine flu cases and the number if only increasing day by day. It has been reported that the patients do not understand the symptoms on time, and so the condition gets worse, causing issues with the further treatment. Till date, 413 swine flu cases have been reported in Mumbai, of which 7 patients have died. Further, a total of 418 deaths have been reported in the state, due to the same.

Around 60% of patients with swine flu have been admitted with additional health conditions, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer and more and these have not been detected at the right time.

Talking about the same, State Health Minister, Deepak Sawant said, “It would be wrong to say that the number of deaths which have been reported have happened due to swine flu, as there are other associated conditions involved, and those could be the reason for death too. The public health system in the state has and will take necessary steps to prevent and treat swine flu. Screening centers have been started for patients at 2199 locations, and till date, more than 13 lakh patients have been examined.”

Medication and treatments are available in adequate quantity. Further, voluntary and free immunization facilities have been provided for patients with serious conditions, pregnant women who are in their second and third trimester and patients dealing with diabetes and high blood pressure.

A review meeting to discuss swine flu, under the chairmanship of Health Minister Deepak Sawant, was organized during the winter session at the Vidhansabha, and Sawant had then instructed the death audit committee of each municipal area to look into the matter closely regarding deaths due to swine flu.
