While India is quickly reaching the 15 lakh mark in COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra has remained the worst-hit state in the nation with more than 3 lakh cases. So far, Mumbai has the highest number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra. On an average, the city records more than 1,000 new cases per day. However, the growth rate of the deadly virus in Mumbai has slowed down significantly. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also witnessed success in containing the spread of the virus in several areas of the city, including the densely populated slums of Dharavi

Despite the continuous efforts of the civic body and the frontline workers, some areas in the suburban parts of Mumbai are still witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases. In Andheri East, which is in the western suburbs of the city, more than 7,000 coronavirus infected cases have been reported so far. Andheri East comes under the K-East ward, and has become the first ward to cross the 7,000 mark in the city. While the total number of positive cases in Andheri East has reached 7,005, the ward also has the highest number of deaths related to the virus. The fatality toll has gone up to 442 in the area. 

There are currently five wards in Mumbai with 6,000 or more infected patients. Interestingly, the western suburban wards of Mumbai have witnessed a sudden rise in positive cases in the past two months. As per the data provided by the BMC, the number of coronavirus patients in Malad went up to 6,583 by July 25, and the cases in Dahisar reached 2,616 till July 26. While by July 26, the total number of cases in Borivali had reached 4,994, the cases in Kandivali reached 4,780 by July 25. 

Meanwhile, Mumbai has reported 1,012 new cases on Monday, taking the city's total caseload to 1,10,182. The city reported 39 deaths in the past 24 hours which took its death toll up to 6,132. The civic body also stated that there are 21,812 active coronavirus patients in the city. With 1,706 patients being discharged in the last 24 hours, the number of recovered patients has gone up to 81,944.
