An 82-year-old from the western suburb of Mumbai has returned home after recovering from COVID-19. As per various health reports, the age group of 60+ is considered to be the most vulnerable. However, this Mumbaikar has set a new example. The woman returned from Kokilaben Hospital after spending seven days in the hospital's isolation facility.

She is the oldest person from Maharashtra to have recovered from the COVID-19. A 93-year-old man and his 88-year-old wife from Kerala are the oldest couple in the country to have survived from the infection. The oldest person in the world to have the best the virus in the world is a 101-year-old Italian.

Talking to TOI, the 82-year-old's son said that despite testing positive her mother did not develop any major symptoms. He added that she had travelled to Gujarat, so they got her tested as a precautionary measure. After the tests came positive, they had hospitalised her. Notably, the family had opted for a home-based testing facility and as per them the experience of this service was seamless.

Dr Santosh Shetty, CEO of Kokilaben Hospital, said that the case gives them hope and confidence that COVID-19 is not a death sentence for the elderly. He added that the woman only needed oxygen support and basic medication. He also said that despite having underlying medical conditions, it was her will power that made the difference in her road to recovery.

The recovery of the 82-year-old comes as a ray of hope. The city has become a hotspot for the pandemic and the southern areas are the worst-hit, accounting for close to 67 per cent of the total cases.
