Daily Cases continue to be over 8,000 in Maharashtra

8,333 new COVID-19 cases were found in Maharashtra taking the caseload up to 21,38,154 while 48 people have lost their lives.

On Friday, February 26, Maharashtra recorded 8,333 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 21,38,154. Currently, there are 67,608 active cases in the state. With 4,936 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 20,17,303.

More than 48 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 52,041. While 3,18,707 persons are under home quarantine, 2,688 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.35 per cent, and 2.43 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 1,034 new COVID-19 cases, 712 recoveries and three deaths on Friday, February 26, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,23,877. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 9,315 active cases and 3,02,232 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,461 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 32,30,798 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 13 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 120 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 16,488 new cases, 12,771 recoveries and 113 deaths taking the tally up to 1,10,79,979 on Friday, February 26. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,07,63,451 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,56,938 in the country. At present, there are 1,59,938 active cases. So far, 1,42,42,547 healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated in the country.
