Conducted between August 8 and September 9, Mumbai’s fifth sero-survey, depicted a prominent prevalence of antibodies, with 86.64% of the 8,000-plus citizens examined depicting disclosure to coronavirus, highlighted reports.

Nearly 65% of those surveyed were either fully vaccinated or had taken at least one jab. 90.26% of them had developed antibodies. Of the 35% unvaccinated, 79.86% had antibodies. Additionally, the difference in incidence in slums and non-slums areas is insignificant. There is a slight difference in the sex-wise sero-prevalence. Females showed 88.29% sero-prevalence whereas males showed 85.07%.

But BMC doctors proclaimed a caution that the results aren’t a depiction of the protective levels of IgG antibodies so people must adhere to covid-appropriate behaviour.

Suresh Kakani, Additional Municipal Commissioner, stated that they are viewing the results of the sero-survey positively, but aren’t letting their guard down. The authorities are of the opinion that if covid-appropriate behaviour isn’t adhered to, people could get affected, even if the symptoms are moderate. People should wash hands, wear masks and observe social distancing, he says. He elaborated that one reason for the negligible incidence between non-slums and slums could be the large number of people residing in buildings who are vaccinated.

In a statement, the BMC stated that the sero-prevalence among those vaccinated is higher than the unvaccinated and it is important to further intensify the vaccination drive, mentioned reports.
