The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) after thorough consideration has decided to conduct antigen tests in crowded places. The decision has been taken after the COVID-19 cases have increased in the city, and in view of the same, officials will be conducting antigen tests at malls, tourist spots, railway stations, ST depots, markets, restaurants.
As per the revised guidelines, each mall has been instructed to conduct 400 tests per day, while those who come to the mall for shopping will have to get tested at their own expense. Those who refuse to undergo tests or pay the costs will be prosecuted under the Infectious Diseases Act.
As of now, the BMC has set a target of 50,000 tests a day, and the commissioner has also directed all 24 divisional offices in Mumbai to report the number of tests carried out every day. There are a total of 27 malls in Mumbai and each mall has a target of 400 tests. Meanwhile, there are four ST depots at Mumbai Central, Parel, Borivali, Kurla; and there are seven railway stations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Mumbai Central, Dadar, Bandra, Andheri, Borivali, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kurla where trains from different states arrive.
Understanding the passenger entries, the BMC has directed to conduct 1000 tests every day at these places.
Meanwhile, the state government has asked the citizens who have successfully registered for vaccination on the Co-Win app to go directly to the nearest hospital and get vaccinated without waiting for the date of vaccination. Currently, vaccines are being provided free of cost in BMC run hospitals. At present, 59 private hospitals have also provided paid vaccination at the rate of INR 250.
