According to reports, Lifeline Multi-Specialty Hospital in Malad has charged a patient ₹21 lakhs for the treatment of coronavirus.

Unfortunately, the patient succumbed to the illness, however, the hospital administration refused to hand over the body unless the bill was fully was paid by the family members. Pravin Darekar, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, has demanded that a case be registered under section 302 against the hospital administration for robbing ordinary patients during the coronavirus crisis.

As soon as the bill was verified, it was pointed out that two types of charges were levied on the patient's bill at the same time. Darekar criticizing the government’s policy stated that not only circulars need to be removed but should also be controlled and monitored if in place, otherwise, hospitals would continue scamming, charging the patient ₹3,500 for a kit worth ₹300.

Darekar further stated that the civic body should immediately file a case against such hospitals that loot people and seal them. Warning an agitation from the opposition, Darekar added that such misdeeds must be stopped during the pandemic.

MLA Bhai Girkar, Vinod Shelar, Baba Singh, BJP Mandal President Sunil Koli, Narendra Rathod, Deepak Joshi, Pramod Patil were also present on this occasion, echoing similar thoughts.
