As the coronavirus situation in Mumbai slowly comes under control, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)-run schools have been relieved of the COVID duty. 34 schools being used as corona care centres have been handed over to the civic body’s education department.

In the view of increasing coronavirus cases in the metropolitan earlier, the administration had decided to use 72 BMC-run schools for treatment of the coronavirus patients. Currently, the number has been reduced to only 38 schools.

These schools were converted as corona care centres, corona health centres and corona jumbo facilities to accommodate individuals suffering from COVID-19. With the availability of Jumbo facilities centres across the city, the administration has decided to close all other centres except two corona care centres within the boundaries on the divisional office of the BMC.

The corona care centre at Dharavi Municipal School was closed after a corona health centre with large capacity was set up in front of Nature Park at Mahim. Corona related centres in other schools run by the civic body in Mumbai were also closed.

Of the 72 schools being used for the same, 34 civic body-run schools have been closed and transferred to the education department of BMC. The schools have been properly disinfected.

As of now, 38 municipal schools are being used as corona care centres. The BMC officials have claimed that these schools are being cleaned and disinfected regularly. They will be started immediately after the Maharashtra government allows the reopening of schools.
