All the residents of sealed buildings in the K-West ward which comprises the western suburb of Andheri (W) will have to undergo a mandatory rapid antigen test (RAT) for COVID-19 detection, a one of a kind decision by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), reports stated.

According to accounts, strict action will be undertaken against those who refuse to undergo the test stated in a letter issued by the ward office on Tuesday, January 4. Till Tuesday, the K-West ward recorded 63,716 coronavirus cases. Yet again, cases are gradually increasing in the ward.

Almost 90 per cent of the latest cases are coming from high-rise buildings and till now 1,049 floors have been sealed by the BMC which is the highest amongst all ward, claimed narratives. Therefore, the ward has stated that all the other residents of the building will have to undergo the RAT test.

The letter issued to all building secretaries and chairpersons reads that RAT will be conducted for the other residents of the building. Adding that the civic body will be offering a dedicated team for testing in such buildings in accordance to the news cases found in a said building as needed, cited reports.

Based on the letter, action will be taken if the residents refuse to follow the instructions. These actions could include containment of floor, non-removal of building scaling till all high and low-risk contacts are tested or the compulsory 14 days of quarantine isn't completed.

According to a report by the Indian Express, Medical Officer of K-West ward stated that it isn't a compulsion but an appeal for untested residents to do the RAT test.

The prevalent guidelines require all high-risk contacts of the infected patients to get tested on the fifth and seventh day of home quarantine. Additionally, those living one floor above and below the positive patient are also to be tested.
