BMC hires private doctors to teach special courses at peripheral hospitals

The 186 doctors hired by the civic body have around six to eight years of experience who will teach DNB from the next academic year. They will teach speciality courses in six peripheral hospitals.

Around 186 private consultant doctors are hired by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to teach Diplomate of National Board (DNB). They will also provide treatment at six of its peripheral hospital. This development has come in order to reduce the number of critical patients that refereed from peripheral hospital to a tertiary-care centre for treatment. It will help the patients in receiving life-saving treatment in time, stated reports.

There are around 16 peripheral hospitals; however, 40% of its patients are referred to major civic-run hospitals due to the unavailability of specialists. The 186 doctors hired by the civic body have around six to eight years of experience who will teach DNB from the next academic year. The peripheral hospitals that they will teach include Rajawadi Hospital, Bhabha Hospital in Kurla and Bandra, VN Desai Hospital, Shatabdi hospital, and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital, highlighted accounts.

Suresh Kakani, Additional Municipal Commissioner of BMC, said that their main purpose is to strengthen the peripheral hospitals, which are the first line treatment-providing facilities. It will also help in lessening the workload and save lives in time. Dr. Ramesh Bharmal, dean of Nair Hospital, said that they are planning on converting these peripheral hospitals into mini-medical colleges for post-graduation. The civic administration is also planning on increasing the number of peripheral hospitals in the suburbs.
