According to latest reports revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), at least 97 per cent of the eligible citizens or 86,29,807 people in Mumbai have received one dose of the vaccine.

Meanwhile, the number of fully vaccinated citizens in the city stands at 48,85,304, which is over 55 per cent of the eligible adult population, after Monday’s vaccination. With this, experts have stated that over 65% of the people are likely to get fully vaccinated by October end.

Out of the total number of fully vaccinated citizens in the city, 14.21 lakhs are from the 45-59 age group while 22.37 lakhs are in the 18-44 age group.

There are a total of 475 municipal and private vaccination centers in Mumbai and nearly 80,000 to 1 lakh doses are being given daily. However, it has been observed that despite availability of vial doses, the pace of vaccination has slowed down in the last few weeks.

Therefore, earlier this month, the Mumbai civic body started collecting vaccination data from individual housing societies in different wards, asking them for details such as eligible population, including security guards, maids, milkmen etc., and their vaccination status.

Following the survey, mobile vaccination was started in K/East, K/West and G/North ward. After the success in two administrative wards — Andheri East and West — the “Vaccine on Wheels” initiative has also been launched in G/North ward, which covers Dadar and Dharavi, to reach out to areas where vaccination coverage is low.

In addition, three vans were roped in to reach out to commercial sex workers, HIV-positive persons, migrant workers and labourers along with street vendors/hawkers to administer the coronavirus vaccine.

On January, a nation-wide vaccination drive had begun on January 16. Beneficiaries are being given doses at Municipal Corporations, State Governments and private centers.
