The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on Saturday, November 13, achieved its set target of administering the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination. However, Mumbai still needs to administer more doses to truly cover its adult population, stated accounts.

The reason for the same is because 10-20 per cent of people who got jabbed in the city are likely to be people from other parts of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) or the rest of Maharashtra, highlighted reports.

Mumbai’s executive health officer Dr Mangala Gomare said that they are taking into account the slight mismatch. Therefore, they will be continuing the vaccination drive aggressively, as reported by Hindustan Times. The civic body will have to reach much beyond the 100% vaccination mark.

The city had more vaccination centres because of which people from other parts of MMR travelled to Mumbai to get jabbed. Likewise, people from Mumbai travelled outside to get vaccinated when people could not find slots here, added Gomare.

The civic body will go by rough estimates and will achieve an additional 10 per cent to 20 per cent coverage. They will continue to do the vaccination drive to expand the second dose coverage.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, November 9, Maharashtra administered 100 million coronavirus vaccines. While on October 21, India had crossed the 100-cr inoculation mark.
