Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is reported to launch a special COVID-19 vaccination campaign for the students only.

According to sources, a special vaccination drive will be launched in Mumbai in the coming weeks. Most of the students above 18 years of age will be vaccinated. In order to receive the vaccines, students will have to show their identity card after which can then be vaccinated.

As of now, there are more than 1,200 colleges in Mumbai. More than 7 lakh students are studying in the same. Moreover, about 3 lakh students are above 18 years of age. Half of those students are likely to have been vaccinated.

Earlier, the BMC had decided to ramp up the vaccination drive for women in Mumbai. It has been observed that women have received less response to vaccination since a few months amid ongoing festivals.

This development came days after the health department in a letter mentioned that nine districts, including Mumbai and Pune, in the state have been told to improve the vaccination of women beneficiaries.

The civic body has decided to dedicate one day a week for women across the city. The next two weeks will be a two-day special drive to vaccinate women on an experimental basis.
