According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has released a statement on Monkeypox. It stated that the airport authorities are screening passengers from endemic and non-endemic countries that are showing outbreaks.

Based on accounts, the BMC for isolation of suspected cases, has prepared a separate ward at the civic-run Kasturba Hospital with 28 beds. Similarly, test samples will be sent to NIV Pune.

On the other hand, the Maharashtra health department also set out a directive to "keep a watch". On Saturday, May 21, Dr Pradip Awate, a state surveillance officer was quoted in narratives elaborating on how they have apprised all district's health authorities to stay on guard. Awate reportedly added that it is a rare disease.

It has been reported that the WHO announced 80 monkeypox cases in 11 countries. Monkeypox is a viral zoonotic disease that primarily occurs in areas of tropical rainforests of central and west Africa. Occasionally it is exported to other regions.

Narratives suggest that monkeypox resembles smallpox and has been reported in countries such as the UK, the USA, Australia, Europe and Canada.

Experts in reports have claimed that its risk to the general population is low, but has the medical community by surprise since the disease has rarely been seen outside Africa.
