The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sent a proposal to Maharashtra COVID-19 Task Force to give booster dose to frontline workers.

Clarifying the need for booster, the civic body says that it has been 10 months since the start of vaccination campaign in Mumbai, hence, the effect of antibodies in the body of front line workers is likely to decrease.

In a conversation with ABP Marathi, Dr Behram Padriwala of Wockhardt Hospital explained about reduction in the effectiveness of vaccine and mentioned that the effect of vaccine is decreasing day by day among those who have been vaccinated.

He also said that since frontline workers are most at risk. As no one has yet provided concrete evidence on how effective a vaccine dose can be. Moreover, fully jabbed citizens have also been contracting with COVID-19.

On the other hand, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope has also urged the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Mansukh Mandaviya also sought a booster dose for health workers to prepare for a possible third wave of coronavirus.

He also urged the Centre to consider reducing the gap between two shots of the Covishield vaccine so more people will be fully vaccinated.

On Thursday, November 25, vaccination drive in Maharashtra to fight COVID-19 reached two important milestones.
