After the viral video of unhygienic preparation of lemon juice at Kurla station, 236 sugarcane juices were inspected by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) out of which 221 were found to be unhygienic. 15,645 kg of ice including 10,000 litres of juice and 3,838 kg of fruits were destroyed by the BMC.
In the advent of summer when people drink more juices at public places, the BMC has stepped in and is taking extra precautions by checking juice stalls especially at big stations like Dadar, Churchgate, CSMT, Kurla and Mumbai Central.

97 per cent of the samples tested were classified as unhygienic, which contained bacteria like E-coli which possesses a great threat to health resulting in diseases like hepatitis and other infections.
91 per cent of ice samples were also found to be contaminated due to the use of unfiltered dirty water along with improper handling of juice and unclean knives used to chop fruits. Out of all the food samples tested from 195 stalls, only 45 of them were fit for consumption.
Notably, Western Railway had imposed a fine of ₹10,000 on an eatery on platform 2 at Bandra station after a video of a rat moving inside the stall went viral on social media.
