The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has updated its quarantine guidelines for international passengers arriving from Europe, the UK, the Middle East, South Africa, and Brazil.

One of the changes made to the guidelines is allowing positive or asymptomatic patients to be shifted to private hospitals while previously such cases were limited to designated isolation facilities.

Earlier, COVID positive travellers from the UK were sent to the Seven Hills Hospital while passengers from the Middle East, South Africa, Brazil, and Europe were sent to GT Hospital.

As per the new changes, the designated private hospitals for international arrivals are Bombay Hospital, Hinduja Hospital, Raheja Hospital, and Reliance Hospital.

If international travellers test negative for COVID-19 on day seven, they’re sent to mandatory home quarantine for an additional 7 days. All contacts of such travellers who test positive during home quarantine will have to be followed up and isolated as well.

Officials say that these new guidelines are meant to enhance the city’s security with the new mutant variants of COVID-19 emerging out of Brazil, South Africa, and the UK.

Meanwhile, Mumbai has been witnessing an increase in cases while regions like Dharavi witnessed double the amount of cases over a 7-day period last week.
