According to a latest data revealed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the cases of dengue and leptospirosis have been on the rise again in the city since the last few days.

This development comes with the return of intermittent rainfall across mumbai.

As per the data, Mumbai recorded at least seven dengue cases daily on an average in the past 11 days.

Moreover, it is pertinent to note that as on September 11, the city reported a total of 80 dengue cases.

On the other hand, the BMC’s health department said that leptospirosis cases have gone up three times within a week. In the last 11 days, 18 cases have been reported.

Amid this rising concern, the civic health officials stated that people should avoid self-medication. They should consult a doctor if they develop symptoms related to the two diseases.

Explaining further, officials added that leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that spreads through the infected urine of rats, dogs, cats, buffalo, etc. Humans can get leptospirosis through direct contact with urine or through water, soil or food contaminated with their urine.

The bacteria can invade your body through breaks in your skin, like scratches, open wounds and dry areas. It can also enter through your nose, mouth and genitals, they cautioned.
