The city did not see a spike in COVID-19 cases after the Ganesh festival; however, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said that it can not completely rule out a surge in the COVID-19 cases in the coming months.

It was just on Monday, October 4, when the BMC had informed the Bombay High Court (HC) that it does not see a third wave of the pandemic in the city as the vaccination drive is going on smoothly.

Now, as per the BMC officials, further spike in the cases can not be ruled out. With the festival season coming up, it will involve gatherings, and if they do not follow the COVID-19 protocols, there can be an increase in the cases.

On October 5, Tuesday, the 15-days incubation period after the Ganesh festival ended.  The BMC had intensified the COVID-19 testing after the 10-day Ganesh festival.

The situation right now in Mumbai is comfortable and safe since the civic body is able to handle the cases very well due to sufficient health infrastructure, said Suresh Kakani, additional municipal commissioner of the BMC, while addressing the situation. He further added that even though the situation is comfortable right now, one can not rule out the possibility of an increase in COVID-19 cases. Festivals are upcoming like Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali, which will include gatherings.

He urged the citizens to get vaccinated to control the spread of the virus and follow COVID-19 guidelines.
