Thane’s COVID-19 recovery rate currently stands at just over 80%, which is some good news in what has otherwise been a tumultuous past few months for residents of the region. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray on Monday spoke at a review meeting with corporation officials from Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Kalyan-Dombivali.

At the meeting, the CM asked the district administration of Thane to remain in touch with patients who have recovered from the coronavirus for at least a month. “The authorities should remain in contact with the recovered patients for one month… Covid-19 symptoms are changing every day and attention must be paid to asymptomatic patients,” Thackeray said at the meeting.

Thane currently has around 19,335 active cases, while the region has seen a total of 1,23,499 cases up until now with 1,00,570 recoveries. An official said that some recovered patients are reporting issues with breathing, raising some concerns of a relapse.

Thackeray was also mindful of some countries observing a second wave of the virus, with some cases of reinfection being reported recently. Though patients that have recovered from COVID-19 generate enough antibodies to fight it off, it is said that this may not be the case in some patients. With time, antibodies may disappear, making them susceptible to catch the virus again.

The CM also asked municipal corporations to work effectively with the COVID-19 vigilance committees while warning them that any negligence on this front will be dealt with strictly. Thackeray further asked corporation officials to also pay attention to road repairs, fixing of potholes, and monsoon related illnesses.
