Pune’s civic body, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has roped in 50 people from the education department, for each of the 15 ward offices in view of the spike in cases of coronavirus across the state.

According to reports, these people are to focus on contact tracing of COVID-19 positive patients in order to contain the spread of the contagious disease. Moreover, the PMC has also provided a Quick Response Team (QRT) for each of the 15 ward offices in the city. The civic body, however, considering the rapid spread of the viral infection, has decided to further intensify contact tracing.

Meanwhile, a year back, the PMC had made teachers and staff of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) staff conduct out door-to-door surveys in a bid to identify patients and register comorbid patients in each apartment.

Moreover, the civic body also aims to trace low-risk and high-risk contacts of the patients testing positive with COVID0-19 in the last few days. In addition, these people are to be screened for the same and will be given instructions according to the requirements.

On the other hand, Maharashtra witnessed a dip of over 5,000 daily COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours with 24,645 persons testing positive for the novel coronavirus. On Monday, March 22, the state's COVID-19 tally rose to 25,04,327. At present, there are 2,15,241 active cases in the state. With 19,463 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered patients soared to 22,34,330. Furthermore, the positivity rate, recovery rate and fatality rate for the coronavirus in Maharashtra stand at 13.56 per cent, 89.22 per cent and 2.13 per cent respectively.
