Maharashtra govt to run vaccination centres in 2 shifts

In Mumbai, 29 private hospitals have been roped in to provide vaccination. Almost 2,000 doses have been given to the private hospitals where they can charge INR 250 per dose from the beneficiaries. The dosage is free at government hospitals.

As the coronavirus cases in the state have seen a spurt, the state government is gearing up to run vaccination centres in evening shifts in a bid to meet the strong demand of people queueing up to get vaccinated.

This comes after the Health Ministry said that centres could run 24 hours if staffs are readily available. The decision to vaccinate should be done more expeditiously is because it should reach the common public faster.

According to officials, the evening shifts would see more upsurge in demand at urban centres than in rural.

After studying the availability of manpower, the supply of vaccines, capacity of cold chain and the rate of infection in those districts, the vaccination facility will be launched in two shifts, said state health ministry. 

Moreover, the state health secretary said that vaccination would not be possible for 24 hours due to insufficient manpower.

At NESCO, the officials are disbursing tokens outside the centre in order to reduce the crowding.

According to reports, there are 12 lakh, senior citizens, in Mumbai.
