On May 6, as many as 635 cases of coronavirus were reported in Mumbai, taking the tally of COVID-19 cases in the city to 9,945 by the end of the day. Alongside, Maharashtra registered 841 new cases throughout the day. The city also recorded 26 deaths on Tuesday, taking the total number of deaths due to coronavirus to 387.
On Monday, Mumbai had registered 771 new cases. However, no deaths were recorded throughout the day, which provided the citizens with a ray of hope that things were getting better. But with 26 deaths in the next 24 hours, the pandemic still continues to worry Mumbaikars.
But not all hope is lost as 220 persons were discharged on Tuesday after they tested negative for COVID-19. So far, 2,128 patients from Mumbai have recovered from the disease.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police had announced that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been imposed in the city till 17 May."The movement of one or more persons for all non-essential services, except for medical reasons, will be prohibited between 8 pm and 7 am," the police said.
On the other hand, in order to curb the spread of coronavirus in the Kalyan-Dombivli area, the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) on Tuesday, decided to prohibit the movement of people going to Mumbai for work May 8 onwards. The civic body stated that the government employees, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) staffers and persons working in government hospitals from the KDMC area will be provided accommodation in Mumbai itself by the BMC.
As of May 5, the Kalyan-Dombivli area recorded 224 cases of coronavirus. Of which, 147 are undergoing treatment, three are dead and 74 have recovered from the disease. The reason behind the recent move by KDMC is that 60 of the COVID-19 patients were persons who travelled to work to Mumbai.
