The number of hot spots in Maharashtra has been reduced to five from 14, informed Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Wednesday night via his address on social media.

While addressing the state, Tope also urged people to not panic over the projections made by the central team suggesting that the COVID-19 cases in Mumbai will rise up to 42,604 by April 30. The central team has projected a massive hike in COVID-19 cases in Mumbai. The Maharashtra government has contested the methodology and tools used for the latest projection and gap analysis by the centre and Tope was referring to the same in his address.

Tope goes on it that there was no need to worry over the projections made by the Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) which came to Mumbai on a two-day visit to check the state efforts in implementing the lockdown measure along with inspecting the supply of essentials and safety of healthcare professionals.

The projections were based on assumption that the situation would be static, Tope said while stating that every possible effort was being made to contain the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19.

“There is no need to panic over the projections made by the central team about a massive increase of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai. It is a mathematical model and there’s a science about it. However, things will not remain static because efforts are being made to contain the spread of the infection,” Rajesh Tope said.

The centre’s team has projected that the numbers in Mumbai will rise up to estimated 42, 604 by April 30 and will get increased to 6,56,407 by May 15. The data presented by the team shows trouble for the Maharashtra government and is based on mathematical modelling for Mumbai by the Union Health Ministry.

The Maharashtra Health Minister further informed that the death rate in the state has decreased and the recovery rate is 13 per cent. Even the hotspots in Maharashtra have decreased from 14 to five, Tope added.

“Our aim is to protect everyone and take the mortality rate to zero which is around five now. We have improved our mortality rate and the same will be four soon,” Tope said while adding that the Maharashtra government has increased screening, testing, treatment and was following the guidelines issued by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Tope said that the state has only five hotspots including Mumbai, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune, Nagpur and Nashik. The plasma therapy has started on full scale as per the ICMR directions, the minister informed.
